Half Height Living Room Wall Panels

Half height living room wall panels are a great way to add texture and dimension, without overwhelming your space. The ideal height for your living room panelling depends on the ceiling height as well as your interior style (and of course, personal preference). Here are a few tips guide you:

  • As a general rule, half-height wall panels should usually be between 800mm–1200mm high.
  • Traditional styles such as bead & butt or tongue and groove often sit slightly lower, around 800–1000mm high.
  • More modern designs, such as ribbed or slat panels, tend to work best at around 1200mm high.
  • If you’re panelling around features like window sills or fireplaces, aligning the top of the panelling with these features can help create a more balanced and cohesive look.
  • When looking for half-height living room panelling, opt for a landscape orientation (the grooves will still run vertically).

Panels for TV or Media Walls

When choosing living room wall panels for a TV or media wall, it’s important to choose a design that adds texture and interest but doesn’t look too busy alongside your TV and shelving.

Ribbed and Fluted Panels are a particularly popular choice for media walls, as they create depth and dimension without looking too busy or overpowering. If sound quality is a priority, Acoustic Slat Panels are another excellent option.

If your panels are being installed near an active fireplace, we’d recommend opting for fire-rated panelling. And if you’re working around shelving, alcoves or awkward spaces, we cut your panels to size for a perfect fit.

Living Room Wall Panel Colours

The colour of your living room wall panels can completely change the look and feel of your space, so it’s definitely worth taking the time to choose the right shade.

Firstly, think about whether you want your living room panelling to blend in or stand out as a feature. Painting the panels in the same, or a similar shade to your walls will create a softer, more cohesive feel and can help make the room feel larger. Alternatively, choosing a contrasting colour can make the panelling more of a statement and highlight the detail of the design.

If you’d like more flexibility with colour, our paintable MDF wall panels are a great choice, compared to veneered panels. They work beautifully with soft neutral shades as well as richer, moodier tones and can easily be repainted if you decide to you want to change up your look in the future.
